Mangosteen [free crochet pattern]

Mangosteens are one of my favourite fruits. It's hard to find them where I live, and if I do, they're usually quite expensive! They are super juicy and sweet, and are easily found in South East Asian countries. Whenever I travel to Indonesia, it's the first thing I look for! The only negative is that the rind can stain your clothes - so make sure you don't wear your favourite t-shirt 😉

Since I can't eat them that often, I figured, why not crochet one?!

Let me know in the comments below if you've had mangosteen before.

Happy crocheting!

This pattern uses US terminology and is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise specified. I recommend using a stitch marker or a scrap piece of yarn to mark the first stitch of each round.

See my blog post here on how to convert US terminology to UK terminology.

The mangosteen will measure approx. 6cm when using similar yarn and hook size.

Putting it all together

  • Sew the leaves between R5 and R6 of the main part of the mangosteen. I used a whip stitch. I also added a few stitches to secure the leaves down. Note: there will be some overlap with the leaves.
  • Sew the bottom detail over R19 and R20 of the main part of the mangosteen. I secured the 5 points of the bottom detail.
  • Sew the eyes over R12 and R13, approximately 3 stitches apart
  • Sew the eyebrows over R11
  • Sew the mouth over R15
  • Sew the cheeks between R14 and R15
