There's always a silver lining [free crochet pattern]

Being asked to social distance and stay home means I don't have to come up with an excuse to crochet and watch TV (currently alternating between 2 Broke Girls and Elementary) - yep, I'm definitely a homebody!

I'm also finding I'm catching up more regularly with friends - so much easier to video chat than spending all that time getting ready to go out 😄

Mini Cloud Pattern

This pattern uses UK terminology and is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise specified. I recommend using a stitch marker or a scrap piece of yarn to mark the first stitch of each round.

Materials

  • 8 ply (DK) cotton in blue (or any colour of your choice!)
  • Scrap yarn in black and pink to embroider mouth and cheeks - I used 4 ply cotton
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Polyester fibrefill stuffing
  • 6mm safety eyes

Abbreviations (UK terminology)

  • dc: double crochet
  • inc: double crochet increase
  • dec: double crochet invisible decrease
  • R: round
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • FLO: crochet in front loop only
Cloud

8 ply cotton in blue

R1: 6 dc in magic circle     [6 sts]
R2: (inc) x 6     [12 sts]
R3: (dc 3, inc) x 3     [15 sts]
R4: dc in each st     [15 sts]
R5: dc 6, in FLO (inc) x 3, dc 6     [18 sts]
R6: dc6, (dc 1, inc) x 3, dc 6     [21 sts]
R7: dc in each st     [21 sts]
R8: dc 9, (inc) x 3, dc 9      [24 sts]
R9 - R12: dc in each st i.e. 4 rounds     [24 sts]

Place first eye between R8 and R9 in st 7

R13: dc 6, (dec) x 6, dc 6     [18 sts]
R14: dc in each st     [18 sts]
R15: dc 6, in FLO dc 6, dc 6     [18 sts]
R16: dc in each st     [18 sts]

Place second eye between R13 and R14 in st 7

Begin stuffing

R17: (dc 4, dec) x 3     [15 sts]
R18: (dc 3, dec) x 3     [12 sts]
R19: (dec) x 6     [6 sts]

Finish stuffing

Fasten off and leave a long thread. Thread the yarn through the front loops of the 6 sts and pull to close. Weave in the end.

Sew a mouth between the eyes and cheeks next to each eye.

Your mini cloud is now finished!
