Cooper the Baby Chick [free crochet pattern]

Wow! Time has flown by since my last blog post in December - I can't believe it's almost Easter. There are already so many cute Easter creations popping up on my Instagram, but I couldn't resist designing my own one. This free pattern also coincides with me reaching 3k followers on Instagram - a BIG thank you to everyone who has supported me 💖

Meet Cooper the Baby Chick - a newly hatched baby chick who loves to play! His design was inspired by the little chick emoji 🐣

If you're sharing it on Instagram, please tag me @handmade__byani or use the hashtags #cooperthebabychick and #handmadebyani! If you have any questions about the pattern, please leave a comment below.

Stuff egg shell

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Putting it all together

  • Using a needle or crochet hook, pull the hair through the centre of the head and body. The knot should be on the inside of the head and body (see picture below)
  • Sew the beak over round 10 of the head and body (see picture below)
  • Using a whip stitch, sew the head and body to the egg shell. My whip stitch went through the back loop of R16 of the egg shell and the front loop of R15 of the head and body. Before you finish sewing the head and body to the egg shell, stuff firmly (see picture below)
  • Sew the arms between round 13 and round 14 of the head and body, approx. 11 stitches apart at the front
  • Cut the loops of the hair in half and trim to your preferred length. You can use a yarn needle to split the threads to fluff out the hair
  • Weave in all ends and cut off excess yarn
