Mini Saturn Pattern

This pattern uses UK terminology and is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise specified. I recommend using a stitch marker or a scrap piece of yarn to mark the first stitch of each round.
Materials
- 8 ply (DK) cotton in light orange, dark orange, and light grey
- 3mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Polyester fibrefill stuffing
- 8mm safety eyes
- Black embroidery thread to embroider mouth
Abbreviations (UK terminology)
- dc: double crochet
- inc: double crochet increase
- dec: double crochet invisible decrease
- R: round
- st(s): stitch(es)
- blo: back loop only
Head and body
8 ply cotton in light orange
R1: 6 dc in magic circle [6 sts]
R2: (inc) x 6 [12 sts]
R3: (dc 1, inc) x 6 [18 sts]
R4: (dc 1, inc, dc 1) x 6 [24 sts]
R5: (dc 3, inc) x 6 [30 sts]
R6: (dc 2, inc, dc 2) x 6 [36 sts]
We will now be alternating between light orange and dark orange cotton. The colour you work with will be noted in {} before the stitches.
R7: {light orange} dc 4, {dark orange} dc 8, {light orange} dc 24 [36 sts]
R8: {light orange} (dc 5, inc) x 6 [42 sts]
R9: {light orange} dc 24, {dark orange} dc 6, {light orange} dc 12 [42 sts]
R10: {dark orange} dc 6, {light orange} dc 9, {dark orange} dc 4, {light orange} dc 23 [42 sts]
R11: {light orange} dc 33, {dark orange} dc 7, {light orange} dc 2 [42 sts]
R12: {light orange} dc 10, {dark orange} dc 4, {light orange} dc 28 [42 sts]
Place safety eyes between R8 and R9, in st 19 and st 24 i.e. approx 5 sts apart.
With black embroidery thread, sew on a mouth over R11 (approx. st 22).
R13: blo dc in each st [42 sts]
R14: {light orange} dc 22, {dark orange} dc 10, {light orange} dc 10 [42 sts]
R15: {light orange} dc 1, {dark orange} dc 4, dec, dc 1, {light orange} dc 4, dec, (dc 5, dec) x 4 [36 sts]
Continuing in light orange only.
R16: (dc 2, dec, dc 2) x 6 [30 sts]
R17: (dc 3, dec) x 6 [24 sts]
R18: (dc 1, dec, dc 1) x 6 [18 sts]
R19: (dec) x 9 [9 sts]
Fasten off and leave a long thread. Thread the yarn through the front loops of the 6 sts and pull to close. Weave in the end.
Ring
8 ply cotton in light grey
Using a standing dc, join to the front loop of R13 of the head and body. It will count as the first st of the round. Note: the bottom of Mini Saturn should be facing away from you.
R1: dc in each st [42 sts]
R2: (dc 3, inc, dc 3) x 6 [48 sts]
R3: (dc 7, inc) x 6 [54 sts]
Fasten off and weave in the end.
Feet (make 2)
8 ply cotton in light orange
R1: 6 dc in magic circle [6 sts]
R2: (inc) x 6 [12 sts]
R3: dc in each st [12 sts]
R4: (dc 2, dec) x 3 [9 sts]
Fasten off and leave a long thread for sewing.
Sew feet over rounds 14 to 16, approx. 4 sts apart
